The role of pathology
Pathology is the branch of medicine that involves studying and diagnosing diseases. By looking at changes in tissue, blood and other body fluids, it is possible to find the causes of disease, show a condition’s severity and monitor the progress of treatments. More than 70 per cent of all medical diagnoses are made in a pathology laboratory. Every single case of cancer in Australia is diagnosed by a pathologist. Chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and kidney or liver disease, are firstly diagnosed, then managed, using pathology investigations and virtually all preventive health programs rely on pathology tests.

Patient services staff
With a team of more than1,000 professional collectors who hold a minimum Certificate III in Pathology Collection, our experienced and caring staff are committed to providing a personal pathology service to ensure your specimen collection is efficient and accurate.
Many of our collection staff have advanced skills in a variety of specialised tests that your doctor may require, and you may be directed to a particular collection centre for these tests.
Specimen collection
Every test belongs to a person who is waiting for their results and is hoping for a certain outcome. We understand that some patients come to us with concerns and expectations and that is why quality and excellence in service matters. When it comes to taking blood and other pathology specimens, everyone is an individual. Your wellbeing is important to us and we know that getting the right sample the first time will give you peace of mind.
