An opportunity exists for a Histology Scientist at the Orange branch of Barratt and Smith Pathology (BSP), a member of the Sonic Healthcare Group.

About us:

The Orange BSP Laboratory services a large area of the NSW Central West. We are a medium-sized regional laboratory with a dedicated and personal approach to meeting the needs of the local community.

About the role:

This is a permanent full-time position with shifts rostered to cover the hours of 8.30am until 8.30pm, Monday to Friday and 10.30am until 2pm on Saturdays. Participation in the on-call roster outside of these hours will be required.

Selection criteria:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person with well-developed interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service. The successful applicant will have good organisational skills, dedication to planning and problem solving and a flexible approach to the work environment.

Also required for the position:

  • AIMS accredited or AIMS assessed degree from a recognised tertiary institution
    • Degree should include units of study for:
    • Haematology including Haemostasis
    • Immuno-haematology/Transfusion Science
    • Biochemistry
    • Microbiology
  • Ability to work within a busy team environment as well as individually.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with doctors and hospital staff.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines.
  • Motivation to build on current skillset
  • Good attention to detail
  • A current driver’s licence.


  • Previous experience in a Pathology laboratory
