Description

A great opportunity has arisen within the Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology (DHM) Molecular Genetics Department for a scientist experienced with molecular genetics. Molecular genetics is a critical component of the future of DHM, a part of the Sonic Healthcare medical diagnostic companies.

DHM runs a busy and fully NATA-accredited diagnostic genetics department specialising in genetic testing for disease diagnosis and susceptibility, preconception screening, non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), relationship testing and pharmacogenetics. The successful applicant will join a large team of experienced scientists, senior scientists and genetic pathologists. Established techniques include DNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, fragment analysis, MLPA, droplet digital PCR and NGS. A full-time position has become available for a suitably qualified and experienced scientist to assist in our routine diagnostic testing.

Applicants must hold a recognised degree in Science or Medical Science with at least
3 years’ laboratory experience in DNA testing techniques. Experience in medical genetic diagnostics and forensic DNA testing are desirable. Postgraduate qualifications would be a distinct advantage. The successful applicant will be self-motivated, flexible and have in-depth knowledge of genetic theory and genetic techniques.

This is a rare opportunity for a motivated and talented scientist who wants to be involved in this rapidly growing accredited medical genetics laboratory.
