 Biochemistry

 A wide range of tests is available, some of which are listed below:

  • Routine biochemical assays for electrolytes, renal and liver function
  • Glucose testing for diabetes, impaired tolerance and hypoglycaemia
  • Amylase, Lipase
  • Specific Proteins; Igs, C3, C4
  • Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1C) and fructosamine for monitoring diabetes
  • Lipid assessment including total and HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol estimation and lipoprotein electrophoresis
  • Cardiac markers, including Troponin T & CK
  • Iron studies, including ferritin
  • Fractionation of bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
  • Protein studies on serum and urine by routine electrophoresis (EPG) and immunoelectrophoresis (IFE)
  • Faecal fat for malabsorption
  • Chemical analysis of calculi
  • Urine testing for measurement of:


    • routine electrolytes, osmolality, urate, urea, citrate and oxalate
    • creatinine clearance to assess renal function
    • microalbumin excretion to monitor diabetes
  • Urine metabolites including 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), catecholamines and dopamine
  • Therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Screening and confirmation of drugs-of-abuse in human body fluids. Accredited by the National Testing Association of Testing Authorities under the Australian standard for drug testing - AS/NZS 4308:2008
  • Occupational health testing, including blood lead and cholinesterase level
