Special interests: Histopathology and cytology
Dr Simon Palfreeman graduated from the University of Sydney in 1978 and undertook his pathology training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital. Since that time, he has been in private pathology practice and has held appointments to both public and private hospitals, including the position of chairperson on a number of hospital infection control committees. Although a generally-trained pathologist, Dr Palfreeman now works predominantly in the areas of histopathology and cytopathology. To further his expertise in cytology, he completed his Fellowship of the International Academy of Cytology (FIAC) in 1992. Dr Palfreeman is Director of the Sonic Clinical Trials Department, a central laboratory service based at Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology, for both national and international drug trials. He is also Regional Medical Director of Newcastle, Port Macquarie and Taree. Dr Palfreeman has an appointment as Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Pathology at the School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame.
