Michael Barratt was the founding partner of Barratt & Smith Pathology in 1971. His main interests are within the fields of histopathology and cytopathology. He was stimulated to train in histopathology by two of Australia's most eminent pathologists, Dr Dermer Smith and Dr Theo Constance, both of whom eventually joined Barratt & Smith. He was probably the first Australian pathologist to seriously try to meet the pathology needs of rural communities. He now has the same commitment to offer the best of Australian private pathology to mainland China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and other SE Asian countries. Michael is Vice-Chairman of the Expert Committee of the Shanghai Consultation Centre in histopathology. He believes 99% of the unethical and unsavoury aspects of medical practice worldwide would disappear if doctors treated their patients as they would like their own families to be managed when ill.
