Special interests: Fine needle aspirations, breast pathology, skin (tumour) pathology and gastrointestinal pathology
Dr Marcella Roman came to Australia from Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) at the age of 13. She is a graduate of the University of Sydney and completed the majority of her pathology training at St George and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals. Dr Roman has been with Barratt & Smith Pathology since 1987, during which time she also spent six months working in Sweden. Her role encompasses predominantly histopathology and cytopathology. She supervises the autologous blood transfusion programme at Barratt & Smith and has set up and coordinates FNA clinics. Dr Roman is also available for general case discussion in biochemistry and haematology. She supervises the main Penrith laboratory and also looks after the Mildura laboratory. Dr Roman is a pathology tutor with the Mildura Regional Clinical School, Monash University, and a part-time pathology tutor at the Nepean Hospital University of Sydney Medical School. She takes part in weekly Breast and Lung Cancer multidisciplinary meetings in Nepean Hospital. Dr Roman has a special interest in performing fine needle aspirations, especially breast lumps, thyroid nodules, subcutaneous masses and lymph nodes.
