Dr Ian Chambers is a graduate of Otago University in New Zealand. His training in medical microbiology began in Wellington, continued in the subspecialty of medical virology in Adelaide and was completed in Sydney. He joined the Douglass practice in 1988. As Director of Microbiology and Immunoserology, Dr Chambers is responsible for those departments which are involved in the laboratory diagnosis of infectious disease. These include general bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, virology, infectious disease serology and molecular pathology. Although laboratory based, a significant part of Dr Chamber’s role is the provision of infection control services to private hospitals in metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW. In this capacity he serves on a number of infection control committees. He also has an appointment as Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Pathology, at the School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame.
