Dr Fiona Bonar graduated with honours from the National University of Ireland in 1977. Having first trained in the clinical arena, she is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and holds diplomas in both paediatrics and obstetrics. She began her pathology training in Ireland at Trinity College, Dublin, and subsequently studied in the USA, where she was Resident and Chief Resident in Anatomical Pathology at The New York Hospital’s Cornell Medical Centre. Dr Bonar completed her Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Pathology at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York and migrated to Australia in 1990. She joined Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology in 1993. Dr Bonar has particular interest and expertise in the histopathology of bones and joints, soft tissues, head and neck, breast and skin. She has contributed to the literature on a variety of topics, most related to musculoskeletal disease. She is also a member of several editorial boards, participates in a number of national and international clinicopathological groups, and is the Curator of the New South Wales Bone Tumour Registry. Dr Bonar has been honoured by admission to The International Skeletal Society, in which she is an active member and has been the recipient of the Corinne Farrell Award. She also holds a position of Adjunct Professor of Pathology at the School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame.
