Special interests: Haematology and flow cytometry
After graduating from the University of Sydney, Dr Elizabeth Bernal worked as a resident at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the Hospital Saint Louis, Paris, and at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London. She then settled with her husband in Colombia, South America, where she completed her training in internal medicine at the University of Rosario and worked as a clinical haematologist for 10 years. She returned to Australia in 1985 and obtained her Fellowship in Pathology while at Westmead and Liverpool Hospitals, before joining Douglass Pathology in 1989. Dr Bernal is available for consultation in all areas of haematology. She has a special interest in flow cytometry and was a participant in the 2006 Bethesda International Consensus on Flow Cytometric Immunophenotyping of Haematolymphoid Neoplasia. Dr Bernal is the Medical Director of the Douglass Hanly Moir laboratory at Westmead Private Hospital and welcomes enquiries from doctors in that area and from staff at the hospital, regarding any aspect of our service.
